Why this works

A rich, energy-dense cheese toastie with a good protein content, but also high in saturated fat and sodium.

Calcium-rich. The cheese provides a substantial amount of calcium, supporting bone health.

Protein contribution. With cheese as the main filling, this toastie delivers a decent amount of protein for satiety.

Sodium and saturated fat. Cheese, butter and mustard make this a higher-salt, higher-saturated-fat meal, so it is best enjoyed occasionally.

Method

  1. Spread the French mustard thinly over one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Spoon the chutney over one slice, then top with the sliced cheese and a little black pepper.
  3. Close the sandwich with the second slice of bread.
  4. Butter the outside of the sandwich evenly.
  5. Cook in a hot frying pan over a medium heat for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden and the cheese has melted. Serve immediately.
