Why this works
Energy-dense and high in protein, but also high in saturated fat and sodium due to the bacon and cheeses.
High protein. Bacon and mozzarella provide a substantial protein load per serving, which may help with satiety and muscle maintenance.
High saturated fat. The cheese, mozzarella, bacon and olive oil contribute a large amount of saturated fat, so this is best enjoyed occasionally if you are watching cholesterol or heart health.
Sodium-rich. Bacon and cheese are both salty ingredients, making this a relatively high-sodium meal.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (Fan 200°C, 428°F, Gas Mark 7).
- Lay the flatbread on a baking tray and spread over the tomato passata.
- Scatter over the chopped bacon and top with mozzarella and the cheese.
- Drizzle with a little olive oil and season with black pepper.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the base is crisp and the cheese is melted and golden.
- Slice and serve hot.
