Why this works

A filling, carbohydrate-rich breakfast with useful fibre and a moderate amount of protein, but the added honey and banana make it relatively high in natural and added sugars.

Beta-glucan fibre from oats. Porridge oats provide beta-glucan, which can help support healthy cholesterol levels and improve satiety.

Potassium and vitamin B6 from banana. Banana contributes potassium for normal muscle and nerve function, plus vitamin B6 for energy metabolism.

Calcium and protein from milk. Milk adds protein and calcium, supporting bone health and making the meal more satisfying.

Method

  1. Mash the nana in a bowl until mostly smooth.
  2. Cook the porridge oats with milk in a saucepan until creamy, stirring often.
  3. Stir in the mashed nana and warm through for 1 minute.
  4. Spoon into a bowl and finish with honey and ground cinnamon.
