Why this works

A moderately energy-dense breakfast bite with healthy fats and some fibre, but relatively high in sugars from dates and honey.

Pistachios provide useful micronutrients. Pistachios contribute vitamin B6, copper and potassium, alongside mostly unsaturated fats.

Oats add fibre and slow-release carbohydrate. The oats support satiety and provide beta-glucan, which is associated with cholesterol-lowering benefits.

Sugar content is fairly high. Dates, honey and orange juice make this a sweeter snack, so it may be less suitable for people watching free sugars.

Method

  1. Mix the yoghurt with a small splash of orange juice until smooth and lightly tangy.
  2. Chop the pistachio nuts finely and spread them on a plate.
  3. Spoon or pipe small dollops of the yoghurt mixture onto a tray lined with baking paper.
  4. Roll the edges of each bite in the chopped pistachios.
  5. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving so they hold their shape.
