Why this works

Moderate-energy pancakes with modest protein and low fibre; best enjoyed as an occasional breakfast, especially if served with syrup.

Provides some protein and B vitamins. The egg contributes protein plus vitamin B12 and riboflavin, supporting energy metabolism and muscle maintenance.

Low in fibre. Made mainly with plain white flour, so the pancakes are unlikely to keep you full for long without fibre-rich toppings or sides.

Sodium can add up. A pinch of salt and baking powder contribute a small amount of sodium, though this remains moderate per serving.

Method

  1. Mix the plain flour and baking powder in a bowl with a pinch of salt.
  2. Whisk in the egg, water and non-dairy creamer until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Heat a lightly oiled frying pan and cook spoonfuls of batter for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
  4. Serve warm with maple syrup if desired.
