Why this works

A simple, energy-dense breakfast bowl that provides fibre and antioxidants from berries, but is relatively high in sugar and low in protein.

Vitamin C and antioxidants. Fresh berries provide vitamin C and polyphenols, which support immune function and help protect cells from oxidative stress.

Fibre for digestive health. The berries and cereal contribute modest fibre, which can support bowel regularity and fuller-feeling meals.

Added sugars. The honey increases free sugar content, so this bowl is less suitable if you are trying to limit sugar intake.

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over a low heat, if using.
  2. Add the fresh berries and honey, then warm gently for 2–3 minutes until the berries begin to soften and release their juices.
  3. Place the breakfast cereal into a bowl.
  4. Spoon the warm berries and their syrup over the cereal and serve immediately.
