Why this works

A simple, fairly light dessert with a decent protein contribution from yoghurt, but it is high in sugar from the jam.

Protein from yoghurt. Yoghurt provides some protein per serving, which can help with satiety compared with a jam-only dessert.

Sugar content. Most of the sugar comes from the jam, so this dish is relatively high in free sugars for the portion size.

Calcium and live cultures. Depending on the yoghurt used, it can contribute calcium and beneficial live cultures for bone and gut health.

Method

  1. Spoon a little jam into the base of each serving glass.
  2. Add a layer of yoghurt on top, then repeat the layers until the glasses are filled.
  3. Swirl the top lightly with a spoon for a marbled effect.
  4. Chill for 10 minutes if you want a colder finish.
  5. Serve as soon as possible for the best texture.
