Why this works

A rich, high-fat dessert with moderate sugar and very low fibre; best enjoyed as an occasional treat rather than an everyday choice.

High in saturated fat. Cream cheese and cream contribute a large amount of saturated fat, which can be high for one serving.

Sugar from jam. The jam provides most of the carbohydrate and added sugar, so this dessert is relatively sweet despite the small serving size.

Some calcium and protein. Cream cheese and yoghurt offer a modest amount of calcium and protein, though not enough to offset the dessert's overall richness.

Method

  1. In a bowl, whisk the cream cheese with the yoghurt until smooth and creamy.

Let the cream cheese soften first so it blends without stubborn little lumps; if the mixture starts to look greasy, stop whisking and switch to a spatula.

  2. In a separate bowl, lightly whip the cream until it holds soft peaks, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture.

Aim for barely holding peaks with the cream, as overwhipped cream will turn grainy and make the filling heavy when folded in.

  3. Spoon the cheesecake mixture into serving cups, creating a thick even layer.

Use a spoon or piping bag to build the layers neatly and avoid knocking out the air, which keeps the filling light rather than dense.

  4. Warm the jam slightly if needed, then spoon it over the cheesecake layer.

Warm the jam only until it loosens and becomes pourable, because overheating can make it runny and seep into the cheesecake layer instead of sitting on top.

  5. Chill the cups for at least 15 minutes before serving so the filling firms up and the flavours meld.

Chill until the cups feel properly set at the centre when nudged; serving too soon can leave the filling soft and the topping sliding around.
