Why this works

A protein-rich, low-carbohydrate breakfast with a high fat and saturated fat content, mainly from bacon, butter and eggs.

Protein and satiety. Eggs and bacon provide a substantial amount of protein, which may help with fullness and muscle maintenance.

Vitamin C and antioxidants. Orange pepper adds vitamin C and carotenoids, supporting immune function and providing antioxidant compounds.

Higher sodium and saturated fat. Bacon, butter and hot chilli sauce can push sodium and saturated fat up, so this dish is best enjoyed occasionally if you are watching heart health.

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a pan until browned and lightly crisp, then add the orange pepper and cook for 3 minutes.
  2. Beat the eggs together and season if desired.
  3. Reduce the heat, add the butter, then pour in the eggs and stir gently until softly scrambled.
  4. Finish with a little hot chilli sauce and serve straight away.
