Why this works

A very low-fat, low-protein drink-style recipe that is relatively high in added sugar for its calorie level and moderately high in sodium from the pickles.

Vitamin C from lemon and tomato. Lemon juice and tomato provide a small amount of vitamin C and antioxidant compounds, which support immune function.

Very low in fat and energy. This is a light option overall, with minimal fat and only modest calories per serving.

Sodium from pickles. The pickles contribute most of the sodium, so this is less suitable for those watching salt intake.

Method

  1. Mix the honey with lemon juice in a jug until dissolved, then stir in the soda water.
  2. Chop the pickles and tomatoes finely and combine them in a small bowl.
  3. Serve the drink over ice with the relish on the side or spooned over crackers if desired.
  4. Chill both components for 5 minutes before serving for the best flavour.
