Why this works
A light, refreshing dessert with moderate sugar and relatively low sodium, but it is not especially high in fibre or protein.
Source of unsaturated fats. The Melo Omega 3 crumble contributes some unsaturated fats and likely provides a small amount of omega-3-type fats, which are more favourable than saturated fats.
Vitamin C from lemon. Lemon adds a modest amount of vitamin C and citrus flavour without many calories.
Caffeine and polyphenols. Black tea provides polyphenols, but also contributes caffeine, which may matter for those sensitive to stimulants.
Method
- Brew a strong black tea with the still water and caster sugar, if using.
- Stir in lemon juice, then pour into a shallow dish.
- Freeze for 2–3 hours, scraping with a fork every 30 minutes to form icy crystals.
- Toast the Melo Omega 3 in a dry pan until fragrant.
- Serve the granita topped with the toasted cereal and mint, if available.
