Why this works
An indulgent, energy-dense dessert that is high in saturated fat and sugar, with some vitamin C from the strawberries.
Vitamin C from strawberries. The strawberries provide a modest amount of vitamin C and some antioxidant compounds.
High saturated fat. The cream and Baileys contribute a high saturated fat load, which makes this a rich occasional treat rather than an everyday dessert.
Added sugar content. Hot chocolate mix and Baileys add sugar, so the dessert is relatively high in free sugars.
Method
- Slice the strawberries and set aside a few neat pieces for the topping.
- Whip the cream in a bowl until it holds soft peaks.
- Stir the hot chocolate into the Baileys Irish Cream until smooth, then fold this mixture gently into the whipped cream.
- Spoon a little of the chocolate cream into serving glasses, add a layer of strawberries, then repeat until the glasses are filled.
- Chill for at least 15 minutes, then finish with the reserved strawberries on top and serve cold.
