Why this works
A rich, energy-dense dessert with plenty of natural sugars and saturated fat, offering a small amount of protein and some calcium from yoghurt.
Dried fruit provides fibre and micronutrients. The dried fruit contributes fibre plus potassium and small amounts of iron and polyphenols, though it is also concentrated in sugar.
Chocolate and butter raise saturated fat. Chocolate and butter contribute a significant amount of saturated fat, so this is best enjoyed as an occasional treat rather than an everyday dessert.
Yoghurt adds calcium and protein. The yoghurt provides some calcium, protein and beneficial dairy nutrients, depending on the type used.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (Fan 160°C, 356°F, Gas Mark 4).
- Put the dried fruit into a baking dish and drizzle over the honey, then stir to coat.
- Roughly chop the chocolate and rub it into the butter with your fingertips until crumbly.
- Scatter the chocolate butter crumble evenly over the fruit.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until bubbling and golden on top.
- Leave to stand for a few minutes, then serve warm with yoghurt spooned over the top.
