Why this works
A fairly energy-dense breakfast porridge with moderate fibre from oats and banana, but relatively high in added sugars and saturated fat from the cappuccino sachets, sugar, butter and margarine.
Fibre from oats and banana. Oats provide soluble fibre, while bananas add additional fibre and potassium, supporting digestive health and a steadier energy release.
Potassium-rich bananas. Bananas are a good source of potassium, which helps normal muscle and nerve function and supports healthy blood pressure.
Higher saturated fat and sugar. Butter, margarine and cappuccino sachets increase saturated fat, and the added sugar plus flavoured drink mix raise the sugar content.
Method
- Put the oats and Quaker into a saucepan with 600 ml water and a pinch of salt if desired, then bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring often, until thick and creamy.
- Stir in the Nescafé Cappuccino and sugar until dissolved.
- Slice the bananas and fold half through the porridge.
- Serve in bowls with the remaining banana on top and a small knob of butter or margarine melted over each portion.
