Why this works

A rich, energy-dense dessert with moderate fibre from oats and bananas, but relatively high in sugar and saturated fat.

Potassium from bananas. Bananas contribute potassium, which supports normal blood pressure and muscle function.

Wholegrain fibre from oats. Oats add soluble fibre, including beta-glucan, which can support cholesterol management and gut health.

High saturated fat. Butter and margarine push saturated fat up, so this is best enjoyed as an occasional treat.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (Fan 160°C, 356°F, Gas Mark 4).
  2. Slice the bananas and place them in a baking dish with the sugar.
  3. Rub the flour, oats and Quaker into the butter or margarine until the mixture looks crumbly.
  4. Scatter the crumble topping over the bananas.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  6. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
