Why this works

A moderately energising breakfast with useful protein and micronutrients, but fairly high in sugar from the honey and bread.

B vitamins and selenium. Eggs and fortified bread contribute B vitamins and selenium, supporting energy metabolism and thyroid function.

Vitamin C and antioxidants. Fresh berries provide vitamin C and polyphenols, which support immune function and help protect cells from oxidative stress.

Added sugar content. Honey is the main source of free sugars here, so this dish is best enjoyed as an occasional breakfast rather than an everyday low-sugar option.

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk until well combined.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, turning to coat both sides without letting it soak too long.
  3. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and cook the bread for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden and cooked through.
  4. Divide the French toast between plates, top with fresh berries, and drizzle generously with honey.
  5. Serve immediately while warm.
