Why this works

A rich, protein-dense omelette that is filling but high in saturated fat and sodium, mainly from the cheese, ham and butter.

High-quality protein. Eggs, ham and cheese provide about 34g protein, supporting satiety and muscle repair.

Calcium and B12. Cheese and eggs contribute calcium, vitamin B12 and other B vitamins important for bone and nerve health.

Saturated fat and salt. Butter, cheese and processed ham push saturated fat and sodium quite high, so this is less suitable for a heart-healthy everyday choice.

Method

  1. Crack the eggs into a bowl, add the milk, and beat until smooth and lightly frothy.
  2. Season if desired with salt and black pepper, then melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat.
  3. Pour in the egg mixture and cook gently, lifting the edges as it sets so the uncooked egg can flow underneath.
  4. When the omelette is almost set but still a little soft on top, scatter the ham and cheese over one half.
  5. Fold the omelette over the filling and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until the cheese has melted.
  6. Slide onto a warm plate and serve immediately.
