Why this works

A filling, protein-rich omelette, but it is also high in saturated fat and sodium because of the cheese, ham, butter and added salt.

High-quality protein. Eggs, ham and cheese provide a substantial amount of protein, which supports muscle maintenance and satiety.

Calcium and B vitamins. Cheese and eggs contribute calcium, vitamin B12 and riboflavin, while ham adds additional B vitamins.

High sodium concern. Ham, cheese, sauce and the added salt can make this dish relatively high in sodium, which may be a consideration for blood pressure.

Method

  1. Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt and black pepper if using.
  2. Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat.
  3. Pour in the eggs and cook gently, drawing the set egg in from the edges to form a soft omelette.
  4. Scatter over the ham and cheese, then fold the omelette in half and cook for 1 minute until the cheese begins to melt.
  5. Warm the sauce in a small pan or microwave, then spoon it over the omelette to serve.
