Why this works

A savoury, energy-dense dish with moderate protein but relatively high fat, saturated fat, sugar and sodium per serving.

High sodium from sausages. Sausages are typically the main source of sodium here, so this dish may be less suitable for those managing blood pressure.

Added sugar from Pepsi glaze. The Pepsi contributes a significant amount of sugar per serving, even after cooking down into a glaze.

Some B vitamins and iron. Pork sausages can provide vitamin B12, niacin and iron, though these benefits come alongside higher saturated fat.

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a deep frying pan over a medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the sausages and brown them on all sides.
  4. Pour in the Pepsi and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Cook for 20-25 minutes, turning the sausages occasionally, until the sauce has reduced to a sticky glaze and the sausages are cooked through.
  6. Serve immediately with any side you like.
