Why this works

A filling, protein-rich dish that is relatively high in energy, saturated fat and salt, so best enjoyed as an occasional main rather than an everyday lighter option.

Good protein content. Beef and milk provide a substantial amount of protein, supporting muscle maintenance and satiety.

Provides some fibre and folate. Peas contribute fibre, folate and vitamin C, which help support digestive health and overall nutrient density.

Watch the salt and saturated fat. Gravy mix, beef and crispy rounds can push sodium and saturated fat higher, which is less favourable for heart health.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C, 392°F, Gas Mark 6).
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large frying pan over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon.
  3. Stir in the peas and brown gravy mix, then add a splash of milk and cook until the sauce is thick and glossy.
  4. Spoon the beef mixture into an ovenproof dish and arrange the crispy rounds on top.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.
