Why this works

Protein-rich and filling, but relatively high in saturated fat and sodium due to the bacon and cheddar.

High-quality protein. Eggs, bacon and cheddar provide a substantial amount of complete protein, supporting satiety and muscle maintenance.

Calcium and B12. Cheddar and eggs contribute calcium, vitamin B12 and other B vitamins, which support bone health and energy metabolism.

Higher sodium and saturated fat. Bacon and cheese make this pie notably saltier and higher in saturated fat, so it may be best enjoyed occasionally.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C, 392°F, Gas Mark 6).
  2. Cook the bacon in a frying pan until browned, then tip into a shallow pie dish.
  3. Whisk 5 of the eggs with the milk and stir in the cheddar cheese.
  4. Pour the mixture over the bacon, then top with the remaining egg, lightly beaten and scattered breadcrumbs.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the centre is set and the top is golden brown.
  6. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
