Why this works
A protein-rich quiche that is relatively low in carbohydrate but high in saturated fat and sodium due to the cheese, ham and added salt.
High-quality protein. Eggs, ham and mature Cheddar provide around 20g protein per serving, supporting satiety and muscle maintenance.
Calcium source. Cheddar and milk contribute calcium for bone health, although the dish is also relatively high in saturated fat.
Sodium concern. Ham, cheese and the added teaspoon of salt make this a salty dish; sodium is fairly high per serving.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (Fan 170°C, 374°F, Gas Mark 5) and place a baking dish on the middle shelf to heat.
- Put the ham into the dish in an even layer, then scatter over the mature Cheddar cheese.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth, then season with salt and black pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture over the ham and cheese, making sure everything is evenly covered.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until the quiche is set in the centre and lightly golden on top.
- Leave to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
