Why this works

Protein-rich and filling, but high in saturated fat and sodium from the ham, cheese, margarine and added salt.

High-quality protein. Eggs, ham and cheese provide around 34g protein, supporting satiety and muscle maintenance.

Calcium and vitamin B12. Cheese and eggs contribute calcium, while eggs and ham are good sources of vitamin B12 for nerve and blood health.

Sodium and saturated fat concern. Ham, cheese, margarine and added salt make this dish relatively high in salt and saturated fat.

Method

  1. Beat the eggs with the milk and a pinch of salt in a bowl until well combined.
  2. Heat the margarine in a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat.
  3. Pour in the egg mixture and cook gently for 1-2 minutes, pulling the edges in so the uncooked egg runs underneath.
  4. When the omelette is nearly set but still slightly soft on top, scatter over the chopped cooked ham and grated cheese on one half.
  5. Fold the omelette in half and cook for another 30-60 seconds, until the cheese has melted and the filling is hot.
  6. Slide onto a warm plate and serve immediately.
