Why this works

High in protein and energy, but also high in saturated fat and salt, so best enjoyed occasionally rather than as an everyday meal.

High-quality protein. Chicken breast provides a substantial amount of lean protein to support muscle maintenance and satiety.

Calcium-rich cheese. Mature Cheddar contributes calcium and phosphorus, which are important for bone health, but it also adds a significant amount of saturated fat and salt.

Salt concern from crisps and cheese. Salted crisps and mature cheese push the sodium content up, which may be less suitable for people watching blood pressure.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C, 392°F, Gas Mark 6).
  2. Season the chicken lightly and place it in a baking dish.
  3. Bake the chicken for 20 minutes, until nearly cooked through.
  4. Grate the cheese if needed, then scatter it over the chicken.
  5. Crush the crisps into coarse crumbs and sprinkle them over the cheese.
  6. Return the dish to the oven for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the crisp topping is golden and crunchy.
  7. Rest for a few minutes before serving.
