Why this works

A protein-rich, low-carbohydrate dish that is relatively high in saturated fat and energy, depending on the fat content of the mince.

Good protein source. Mince provides a substantial amount of complete protein, supporting muscle maintenance and satiety.

Low in carbohydrate and sugar. With only onion contributing most of the carbohydrate, this dish is naturally very low in sugar and carbs.

Higher saturated fat. Butter and typical minced meat can contribute a notable amount of saturated fat, which is worth moderating if eaten regularly.

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a frying pan over a medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the mince and cook, breaking it up, until browned all over.
  4. Reduce the heat and cook for a further 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavours have come together.
  5. Serve hot with your preferred accompaniment.
