Why this works

High in protein and relatively low in carbohydrates, but moderately high in saturated fat from the butter and beef.

High-quality protein. Beef provides around 35g protein per serving, supporting muscle maintenance and satiety.

Micronutrients from mushrooms and onion. Mushrooms and onion contribute small amounts of B vitamins, potassium and antioxidant compounds.

Saturated fat content. Butter and beef contribute a meaningful amount of saturated fat, so portion size and cut of beef matter.

Method

  1. Slice the onion and mushrooms and finely chop the garlic.
  2. Heat the butter in a large frying pan and cook the onion until soft.
  3. Add the mushrooms and cook until browned, then stir in the garlic for 1 minute.
  4. Add the raw beef and cook until browned and just cooked through.
  5. Pour in the balsamic vinegar with a little water and let it bubble into a sticky glaze.
  6. Season well and serve immediately.
