Why this works
A light-to-moderate energy dessert with useful protein from yoghurt, but fairly high in natural and added sugars from the pears and honey.
Calcium and protein. Yoghurt contributes calcium for bone health and around 10 g protein per serving, supporting satiety.
Fruit fibre and micronutrients. Pear provides fibre plus small amounts of vitamin C, potassium and polyphenols.
Added sugar content. Honey increases the free sugar content, so this dish is less suitable for people aiming to keep sugars low.
Method
- Peel, core and chop the pears into small pieces.
- Put the pears in a small pan with the honey and 1 tbsp water if needed, then cook gently for 4–5 minutes until just softened and glossy.
- Spoon the yoghurt into bowls and top with the warm honey pears.
- Serve immediately.
