Why this works

A light, sweet-savoury snack with modest calories and low fat, but relatively refined carbohydrate and only moderate fibre.

Citrus & tea antioxidants. Black tea and lime contribute polyphenols and vitamin C, which support antioxidant intake.

Low saturated fat. This snack is naturally very low in saturated fat, making it a lighter option than many fried or cheese-based snacks.

Sodium awareness. Lightly salted tortillas and soy sauce add sodium, so the snack is not especially low-salt despite its small portion size.

Method

  1. Cut the tortillas into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Steep the black tea in the still water, then reduce it to a strong, dark glaze.
  3. Stir in honey and soy sauce if using, then brush lightly over the tortilla pieces.
  4. Bake at 190°C (Fan 170°C, 374°F, Gas Mark 5) for 6–8 minutes until crisp and glossy.
  5. Finish with sesame seeds and a squeeze of lime, if available, then serve warm.
