Why this works

A rich, energy-dense toastie with substantial saturated fat and sodium, best treated as an occasional meal rather than an everyday choice.

High sodium from salami and cheese. Salami and grated cheese are the main contributors to sodium, which is relatively high for one serving and may be a concern for blood pressure.

High saturated fat. Butter, salami, mayonnaise and cheese together push saturated fat up considerably, which can be less favourable for heart health if eaten often.

Protein content. The salami and cheese provide a decent amount of protein, making this more filling than a typical snack.

Method

  1. Lay the wraps flat on a board. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over one side of each wrap.
  2. Top one half of each wrap with salami and sprinkle over the grated cheese.
  3. Fold the wraps in half to enclose the filling.
  4. Melt the butter in a large frying pan over a medium heat.
  5. Cook the folded wraps for 2–3 minutes on each side until the wraps are golden and the cheese has melted.
  6. Slice into wedges and serve warm.
