Why this works

A filling, high-protein toasted melt that is relatively energy-dense and high in saturated fat and sodium due to the cheese, ham and margarine.

High-quality protein. Chicken, ham and cheese provide a substantial protein hit to support satiety and muscle maintenance.

Calcium and phosphorus. Cheese is a good source of calcium, which supports bone health, along with phosphorus.

Sodium and saturated fat content. Ham and cheese can push sodium and saturated fat up, so this is less suitable for a low-salt or heart-focused diet.

Method

  1. Lay out the bread slices and spread a thin layer of margarine on one side of each slice.
  2. On the unbuttered side of half the slices, layer the cooked chicken, cooked ham and cheese evenly.
  3. Top with the remaining bread slices, margarine-side facing out, and press gently.
  4. Heat a frying pan over a medium heat and cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and the cheese has melted.
  5. Slice in half and serve immediately while hot.
