Why this works

A fairly energy-dense breakfast with moderate protein, but relatively high in sugar and saturated fat from the jam, butter and bread choice.

Protein from eggs and yoghurt. Eggs and yoghurt provide useful protein, which helps with satiety and supports muscle maintenance.

Calcium from dairy. Milk and yoghurt contribute calcium for bone health, with some additional B12 and iodine depending on the dairy used.

Added sugar and saturated fat. Jam, caster sugar and butter increase the free sugar and saturated fat content, making this less suitable for everyday use in larger portions.

Method

  1. Whisk the eggs and milk together in a shallow bowl.
  2. Spread a little jam on two slices of bread, then sandwich with the remaining slices if making filled toast, or leave plain if preferred.
  3. Heat the butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Dip the bread into the egg mixture and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
  5. Serve with yoghurt and an extra spoonful of jam drizzled over the top.
