Why this works

A light, fruit-based frozen snack with modest calories and low fat, but it is fairly high in natural and added sugars for the portion.

Potassium from bananas. Bananas contribute potassium, which supports normal muscle and nerve function.

Calcium and live cultures. Yoghurt can provide calcium and, if it contains live cultures, beneficial bacteria for gut health.

Added sugar from jam. Jam increases the sugar content, so this is best treated as an occasional sweet snack rather than an everyday low-sugar option.

Method

  1. Mash the bananas in a bowl until fairly smooth.
  2. Stir in the yoghurt and a little lemon juice.
  3. Spoon the mixture into moulds or small paper cups.
  4. Freeze until solid, ideally for at least 4 hours.
  5. If using, swirl a little jam through the mixture before freezing for a fruity ripple.
