Why this works
A small, energy-dense treat that is high in saturated fat and sugar, so best enjoyed occasionally rather than as an everyday snack.
Chocolate antioxidants. Chocolate can provide polyphenols, particularly if it is a higher-cocoa variety, though this depends on the chocolate used.
Low fibre. This recipe contributes only a small amount of fibre per serving, so it is not especially filling or gut-supportive.
Sodium is modest. Despite the pinch of salt, sodium remains relatively low per serving.
Method
- Line a small square tin or tray with baking paper.
- Melt the butter gently, then stir through the crushed snack bars and a pinch of salt until evenly coated.
- Press the mixture firmly into the prepared tin and chill for 10 minutes until set enough to slice.
- Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of barely simmering water, stirring until smooth.
- Cut the snack bar mixture into squares, then dip or drizzle each square with the melted chocolate.
- Return the squares to the fridge for a few minutes until the chocolate has set.
