Why this works

A small, energy-dense treat that is high in saturated fat and sugar, with modest protein from the eggs.

Vitamin B12 and choline. Eggs contribute vitamin B12 and choline, which support red blood cell formation and normal nerve function.

Saturated fat. Butter and chocolate make this recipe relatively high in saturated fat, so it is best enjoyed occasionally.

Low fibre. This recipe provides very little fibre, as it contains little whole grain or fruit content.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (Fan 160°C, 356°F, Gas Mark 4) and line a square baking tin with baking paper.
  2. Roughly chop the snack bar into small pieces and set aside.
  3. Melt the butter and chocolate together in a heatproof bowl over a pan of gently simmering water, stirring until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until just combined.
  5. Stir the melted chocolate mixture into the eggs, then fold through the chopped snack bar pieces.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared tin and bake for 15–18 minutes, until just set in the centre.
  7. Leave to cool completely in the tin before lifting out and cutting into squares.
