Why this works

High in protein with moderate fat and relatively low carbohydrate content; best suited as a filling main dish rather than a low-salt or low-saturated-fat option.

High-quality protein. Chicken provides a substantial amount of complete protein to support muscle maintenance and satiety.

Calcium and B12 from cheese. Mild cheese adds calcium for bone health and vitamin B12, though it also increases saturated fat and salt.

Sodium from sauce and cheese. Bolognese sauce and cheese can contribute a notable amount of salt, so the dish may not suit a low-sodium diet.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C, 392°F, Gas Mark 6).
  2. Cook the chicken in a pan until lightly browned and cooked through.
  3. Stir in the Bolognese sauce and a splash of water to loosen it if needed.
  4. Transfer to a baking dish and top with the mild cheese.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes until hot and bubbling and the cheese is melted.
  6. Serve with pasta, rice or bread if desired.
