Why this works
A light, refreshing drink with modest calories, very little fat or sodium, and a small fibre boost from chia seeds.
Hydration support. Watermelon provides a high water content plus vitamin C and potassium, making this a refreshing option in warmer weather.
Omega-3 and fibre from chia. Chia seeds add a little fibre and plant-based omega-3 (ALA), which can support satiety and gut health.
Added sugar from honey. Most of the sugar content comes from the honey and watermelon; this is worth noting if you are watching free sugars.
Method
- Cut the watermelon into chunks and blend until smooth.
- Stir in the lime juice and honey.
- Mix through the chia seeds and leave for 5 minutes so they start to thicken.
- Pour into glasses and serve well chilled.
