Why this works
Very rich in butter and low in carbohydrate, making it an energy-dense biscuit with minimal fibre and protein.
Butter provides saturated fat. A significant proportion of the fat is saturated, which may be less suitable for frequent intake if you are watching cholesterol or overall saturated fat intake.
Eggs add some protein and micronutrients. Eggs contribute a small amount of protein plus nutrients such as vitamin B12, selenium and choline.
Tea adds minimal nutrition. The tea infusion contributes very little energy or macronutrients, and any antioxidant benefit is likely modest at this serving size.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (Fan 160°C, 356°F, Gas Mark 4) and line two baking trays with baking paper.
- Cream the butter with a pinch of salt until smooth and pale.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time until fully combined.
- Brew a small amount of strong tea, then cool it slightly and stir it into the mixture for flavour.
- Shape into small rounds and place on the trays, leaving space for spreading.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden at the edges.
- Cool on the trays for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
