Why this works
A savoury, moderate-energy snack with some protein and calcium, but relatively high in saturated fat and sodium.
Omega-3 fat source. Melo Omega 3 may contribute some beneficial unsaturated fats, which can support heart health compared with recipes made with standard frying fats.
Calcium and protein. Cheddar and sour cream add protein and calcium, supporting bone health, though they also raise saturated fat.
Sodium from processed items. Lightly salted tortillas, cheddar, salsa and jalapeños can push sodium up, so this is worth noting if watching blood pressure.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C, 392°F, Gas Mark 6).
- Cut the tortillas into triangles and spread them on a baking tray.
- Bake for 5–7 minutes until crisp.
- Pile the Melo Omega 3 over the warm tortilla chips.
- Serve with cheddar, salsa and sour cream if you have them, and scatter over jalapeños for heat.
