Why this works

A moderately energy-dense dessert with some fruit and yoghurt, but also notable added sugar from biscuits, jam and custard.

Fruit content. The mixed fruit contributes vitamin C, antioxidants and some fibre, depending on the fruit used.

Yoghurt and milk. Dairy ingredients add calcium and a modest amount of protein, supporting bone health.

Added sugars. Jam and biscuits increase free sugars, so this is best treated as an occasional dessert rather than an everyday snack.

Method

  1. Crush the biscuits and divide them between four glasses.
  2. Mix the yoghurt with a little milk until spoonable.
  3. Spoon mixed fruit over the biscuit layer, then add a little jam.
  4. Top with the yoghurt mixture and repeat the layers if desired.
  5. Chill for 10 minutes before serving.
