Why this works
A quick, moderately energising breakfast sandwich with a useful amount of protein, but it is fairly salty and not especially high in fibre.
Protein from ham. The ham provides a modest protein boost, which can help with satiety and muscle maintenance.
Sodium concern. Ham and mustard both contribute sodium, so this is not a low-salt option, especially if eaten frequently.
Refined carbohydrate. White bread and jam add quick-release carbohydrates with limited fibre, so blood sugar impact may be less balanced than a wholegrain alternative.
Method
- Warm the ham gently in a dry frying pan for 1-2 minutes if you like it hot.
- Spread mustard over the bread, then layer on the ham.
- Serve with a little jam on the side for a sweet-savoured contrast.
