Why this works

A light, protein-containing chilled pot with relatively low fat and sodium, but moderate natural sugar from the grapes and dairy.

Calcium and protein. Yoghurt and kefir provide useful calcium for bone health plus a modest amount of protein.

Live cultures. Kefir and many yoghurts can contribute beneficial bacteria, supporting a gut-friendly profile.

Natural sugars. Most of the sugar comes from grapes and dairy lactose rather than added sugars, though the total sugar is still moderately high.

Method

  1. Halve the grapes and set aside a few whole grapes for topping if you like.

Halving them exposes more juicy flesh, so use a sharp knife and keep the cut faces neat rather than crushing the skins. If any grapes are very wet, pat them dry first so they do not thin the mix later.

  2. Whisk the yoghurt and kefir together until smooth and lightly aerated.

Aim for a silky, pourable texture with a few tiny bubbles; stop whisking as soon as it looks uniform, or the yoghurt can turn loose and foamy. If the kefir is very cold, let it sit briefly so the mixture blends more smoothly.

  3. Spoon into glasses or bowls and fold through most of the grapes.

Fold with a spoon or spatula in broad, gentle strokes so the grapes stay intact and do not stain the yoghurt too heavily. Leave a little ribboning of fruit through the mixture for a fresher look and better contrast in each spoonful.

  4. Top with the reserved grapes and chill for 5 minutes before serving.

Chill just long enough for the mixture to take on a cool, slightly thicker feel; too long and the grapes can weep, softening the topping. If serving later, cover the glasses so the surface does not pick up fridge aromas.
