Why this works

A moderately high-calorie, creamy pasta dish with useful fibre and some protein, but relatively high in saturated fat and sodium.

Broccoli adds fibre and micronutrients. Broccoli contributes fibre, vitamin C and folate, supporting digestive health and immune function.

Dairy and feta provide protein and calcium. Cream cheese, milk and feta add protein and calcium, though they also increase saturated fat.

Salt content is likely high. With 1 tsp salt plus feta, this dish is likely relatively high in sodium, which may be a concern for blood pressure.

Method

  1. Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente, adding the broccoli for the final 3 minutes of cooking, then drain.
  2. Warm the tomato in a pan with a splash of milk until it softens and becomes saucy.
  3. Stir in the cream cheese and a little more milk to create a smooth sauce.
  4. Add the pasta and broccoli to the pan and toss until well coated.
  5. Crumble over the feta and season with salt and black pepper before serving.
