Why this works
A high-protein, very low-carbohydrate prawn stir fry that is relatively energy-dense mainly due to the oil, with a moderate sodium level from soy sauce and added salt.
Prawns. Prawns provide a lean source of protein, plus selenium and vitamin B12, which support normal immune and nervous system function.
Canola oil. Canola oil is mostly unsaturated fat and contains some omega-3 ALA, making it a more heart-friendly cooking fat than many saturated fats.
Sodium. Soy sauce and added salt raise the sodium content, so this dish may not suit a low-sodium diet without adjustment.
Method
- Pat the prawns dry and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
- Heat the canola oil in a wok or large frying pan over high heat.
- Add the garlic and stir for 20 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the prawns and stir fry for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
- Splash in the soy sauce and toss everything together until glossy.
- Serve immediately with rice or noodles if desired.
