Why this works

A protein-rich, moderately high-fat meatball dish that is filling but relatively high in sodium and only modest in fibre.

High-quality protein. Pork mince, egg and cottage cheese provide a substantial amount of complete protein to support muscle maintenance and satiety.

Calcium source. Cottage cheese contributes calcium, which supports bone health, though the exact amount will vary by brand.

Sodium concern. The added teaspoon of salt makes this dish fairly high in sodium per serving, which may be a consideration for blood pressure management.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C, 392°F, Gas Mark 6). Finely dice the onions and lightly drain the sweetcorn.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the pork mince, onions, sweetcorn, eggs, salt and black pepper. Mix just until evenly combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs and place them on a lined baking tray.
  4. Bake for 18–20 minutes, turning once halfway through, until the meatballs are cooked through and browned.
  5. Meanwhile, blend or whisk the cottage cheese with a little black pepper until smooth and spoonable. Warm it gently in a small pan if you want a looser sauce.
  6. Serve the meatballs hot with the cottage cheese sauce spooned over the top.
